Hakim Ziyech has ended his contract with Wydad Casablanca by mutual consent and is now free to complete a move to Botafogo, according to ESPN.
The 33-year-old attacking midfielder had been contracted to Wydad until the middle of 2027, but both parties have agreed to bring the deal to an early conclusion. That decision removes the remaining obstacle to a transfer to the Brazilian club.
ESPN reports that Ziyech and Botafogo have reached an agreement, with the player expected to sign a contract running until the end of 2028.
Botafogo had previously been in advanced negotiations with the Morocco international. However, Ziyech was understood to have had doubts about the move because of personal reasons. Those concerns have now been resolved, with the proposed transfer set to take him to Brazil for the next stage of his career.
Ziyech joined Wydad Casablanca in October 2025 after a short spell with Al-Duhail in Qatar. His time with the Moroccan top-flight club lasted only 15 official appearances, although he made a significant contribution by scoring nine goals.
The early termination of his Wydad contract brings an end to a brief period with the club and leaves him ready to continue a career that has included spells at several prominent European sides.
Ziyech began his professional career at SC Heerenveen before moving to FC Twente. His performances in the Netherlands led to a transfer to Ajax, where he established himself as one of the division’s most influential attacking players.
He subsequently joined Chelsea, adding Premier League experience to a career that had already taken him from Dutch football to the international stage. He also played for Galatasaray before moving to Al-Duhail in January 2025.
His stay in Qatar lasted four months before he joined Wydad Casablanca later that year. The Moroccan club became his latest stop, but the agreement has now been brought to an end ahead of the anticipated move to Botafogo.
If completed, the transfer will give Ziyech another opportunity to relaunch his career after a series of relatively brief spells since leaving Ajax. His proposed contract with Botafogo would run through the end of 2028, extending his time in Brazil beyond the immediate future.
