Hansi Flick pleasantly surprised by Gabriel Jesus’ Barcelona impact

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick says he has been surprised by Gabriel Jesus’ form since the Brazil forward joined the club from Arsenal.

The 29-year-old moved to Barcelona in the summer for a reported €15 million, after the club failed to persuade Atletico Madrid to sell Julian Alvarez.

Jesus has largely been behind fellow Brazilian Raphinha in Barcelona’s attacking options, but he has made a strong impression despite limited opportunities. He has scored three goals in five appearances, starting only one of those matches.

With Raphinha currently out with a muscle injury, Jesus is expected to lead the Barcelona attack in Tuesday’s Champions League meeting with Galatasaray on October 13.

Flick told reporters before the match that Jesus had adapted particularly well to his new surroundings.

“He's ready. Whether he plays, which we don't know yet, we'll decide after training,” said Flick.

“We're very happy with him. He's a bit of a surprise, we have to admit. His behaviour is fantastic and he's a great player.”
