Paris Saint-Germain forward Ibrahim Mbaye has officially joined Aston Villa on a five-year contract, with the Premier League club holding an option to extend the agreement by a further 12 months.
The move for the 18-year-old was confirmed by Aston Villa on Tuesday, bringing his eight-year association with PSG to an end. The transfer represents a significant financial return for the French club, which has agreed a deal worth €55m, with a further €5m available in bonuses.
PSG will also receive €1m in training compensation as part of the transfer. The agreement includes another €4m guaranteed to the Paris-based club if Mbaye is sold by Aston Villa in the future.
Mbaye, a Senegal international, was regularly called upon by PSG manager Luis Enrique last season. He made 24 appearances in Ligue 1, although his involvement in the Champions League was more limited, with the teenager featuring in four matches.
The forward came through PSG’s academy and leaves having won eight trophies during his time at the club. He made 44 appearances for the first team, scoring four goals and providing four assists.
His departure continues PSG’s activity in the summer transfer window, with the club having already seen several players leave its squad. Mbaye’s transfer is viewed as a particularly strong piece of business given that his current valuation on Transfermarkt is €30m.
The player had been earning €910,000 per year in France, equivalent to 591.5m CFA francs. He will now begin the next stage of his career in England with Aston Villa.
Aston Villa’s next league fixture is scheduled to be their third match of the English championship season, against Hull City. The match will be played as Mbaye settles into his new surroundings at the Birmingham club.
