Jarell Quansah reportedly prefers a new challenge to Liverpool return

Jarell Quansah does not regard a return to Liverpool as his preferred next step after his progress at Bayer Leverkusen, according to Football Insider.

Liverpool retain a buy-back option for the 23-year-old defender, but Quansah is said to favour taking on a new challenge rather than going back to the Merseyside club.

The England defender has enjoyed a successful spell with Bayer Leverkusen since leaving Liverpool. That experience has reportedly influenced his thinking over his future, with a permanent move away from Anfield currently viewed as his preferred option.

Liverpool’s buy-back clause would allow them to re-sign Quansah for €70.25m, although the option is available only until the summer of 2027.

Quansah came through Liverpool’s academy and progressed into the club’s first-team set-up before moving to Bayer Leverkusen. The centre-back has made six appearances in all competitions this season and has provided one assist.

Despite his limited number of appearances so far this campaign, his development at Bayer Leverkusen has strengthened his position and sparked interest in whether Liverpool will eventually use the clause to bring him back.

The situation leaves Liverpool facing a decision over whether to exercise their option before it expires, while Quansah’s reported preference is to continue his career elsewhere.

Liverpool have also been advised to correct a mistake made by Arne Slot.
