Kovacic welcomes Blues future

Midfielder Mateo Kovacic is excited about the future at Chelsea, having completed a permanent move to Stamford Bridge from Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old Croatia international made 51 appearances for the Londoners last season, including 32 in the Premier League, helping the club to finish in third place in the league and win the Europa League.

I hope I can make a big contribution in the coming seasons.

Now he has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge and is clearly happy to have done so.

Kovacic told he Blues' official website: "I really enjoyed my season on loan with Chelsea, I feel comfortable at the club and like London and the Premier League very much. I am very happy to be able to join permanently.

"We had a successful year, winning the Europa League, and I hope I can make a big contribution in the coming seasons."

Blues director Marina Granovskaia added: "Mateo proved what an accomplished player he is during his season on loan with us.

"He already possesses extensive experience at club and international level and we are sure he will be a big success with Chelsea over the next five years."

Meanwhile, Chelsea have confirmed that Gonzalo Higuain will not be returning to the club next season.

The 31-year-old Argentina international striker moved to Stamford Bridge in January, on loan from Juventus, and scored five goals in 18 appearances for the Blues, but did not do enough to secure a permanent move to Chelsea.

Chelsea are 25/1 to win the Premier League title next season, while they are available at 11/10 to finish in the top four.
