Late Anas Bach goal sends AS FAR Rabat into CAF Confederation Cup group stage

AS FAR Rabat secured their place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage with a 2-1 victory over CO Korhogo, completing a perfect Sunday for Morocco in African club competitions.

The Moroccan side had been facing elimination in the second qualifying round after CO Korhogo equalised in the 54th minute. That goal put AS FAR Rabat behind on the away-goals rule, following Youssef El Fahli’s early penalty in the sixth minute.

But Anas Bach struck in the 83rd minute to settle the tie and spark celebrations at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. The result means the “Military” club will feature in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup this season.

AS FAR Rabat’s success followed MAS Fes qualifying for the CAF Champions League earlier on Sunday. Morocco therefore saw both of its clubs involved in the day’s decisive ties progress to the group stage of African club competitions.

Raja Casablanca had already reached the CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday after overcoming El Kanemi Warriors.

The results left Cote d’Ivoire without a club in either of the two continental competitions. AFAD Plateau were eliminated by CS Sfaxien, while ASEC Mimosas and FC San Pedro were knocked out in the second qualifying round of the CAF Champions League.

ASEC Mimosas lost their tie against MAS Fes, while FC San Pedro’s campaign ended against Nouadhibou.
