Marseille’s difficult start to the season continued as they were beaten 4-1 by Besiktas in their opening Europa League match.
The defeat means the French club have now lost four of their first five matches in all competitions. Marseille have not made such a poor start since the 1964-65 season.
The result adds to a troubled opening in Ligue 1, where Marseille are currently 13th in the table.
Their next league fixture will bring a meeting with Paris Saint-Germain. Marseille will face the Paris club on Sunday, 20 September.
