Mathis Amougou joins Toulouse after Strasbourg spell

Published on: 02 September 2026

Toulouse FC have confirmed the signing of Mathis Amougou on loan from Chelsea, with the Cameroon midfielder set to remain at the Ligue 1 club until 30 June 2027.

The move gives Amougou the chance to continue his development in France after making his first appearance in the country’s top flight with Strasbourg. He will now begin a new chapter with Toulouse, who believe the young midfielder can develop further with the Violets.

Amougou joined Strasbourg from Chelsea on 12 July 2025, but will remain in Ligue 1 after switching clubs. Rather than returning to England or moving to a different league, the player will continue his progress within the French championship.

The length of the agreement represents a significant opportunity for Amougou to gain more regular playing time and build on his initial experience at the highest level of French football. His loan is scheduled to run until the end of June 2027.

During the previous season, the Cameroon international played 12 Ligue 1 matches for Strasbourg. Although his involvement was limited, the midfielder was able to experience the demands of the competition and add valuable top-flight experience to his career.

His current market value is estimated at 9m euros by Transfermarkt. That figure reflects the potential attached to a player who has already attracted attention during the early stages of his career in French football.

Amougou began his development at US Torcy and is regarded as one of the young players being monitored for his potential. At Toulouse, he will aim to take another step forward and gradually establish himself in midfield.

The move to the Violets is intended to give him a fresh environment in which to continue his progress. It may also provide an opportunity for him to demonstrate more consistently the qualities he has shown since beginning his career in France.

Toulouse are preparing for their next Ligue 1 fixture, with their third match of the French championship scheduled to be against Lille. The match will provide the club with an early test as Amougou begins adapting to his new surroundings.

The betting company 1xbet lists Toulouse at odds of 3.30 to win the match, with a draw also priced at 3.30. Lille are listed at 2.00 to claim victory.

Amougou’s arrival adds another young option to Toulouse’s midfield as the club looks to support his development over the length of his loan. For the player, the move offers a chance to turn promising early experience into a more established role in Ligue 1.
