Montpellier tie down Lacine Megnan-Pave after PSG interest

Published on: 22 October 2026

Montpellier have extended Lacine Megnan-Pave’s contract until June 2029, securing the future of one of the club’s most highly rated young players after interest from Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window.

The 16-year-old Franco-Ivorian forward has opted to continue his development with Montpellier, with the Ligue 2 club announcing the agreement on its social media channels.

The new deal underlines Montpellier’s determination to build around their academy prospects and gives the club greater control over the next stage of Megnan-Pave’s progress. Although still in the early stages of his career, the striker has already attracted attention beyond the Herault region.

PSG made approach

Paris Saint-Germain showed concrete interest in Megnan-Pave during the most recent summer transfer window and made an offer estimated at €15m.

Montpellier resisted the approach and decided not to part with one of their most promising players. By agreeing an extension through June 2029, the club has reinforced its position and protected its investment in a forward whose reputation continues to grow.

Megnan-Pave’s emergence has come alongside his first significant exposure to senior football. This season, he has played seven Ligue 2 matches, starting five of them, and has scored two goals.

Those figures represent an encouraging beginning for a player adapting to the demands of the professional game. His involvement in the first team reflects the confidence shown in him by Montpellier’s coaching staff, while his goalscoring contribution has offered an early indication of his potential.

The contract extension also gives Montpellier more time to guide the teenager’s development rather than having to respond to immediate interest from elsewhere. The club’s intention is to help him turn his early promise into consistent performances at senior level.

Megnan-Pave will continue that development in Montpellier colours, having already been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain. For the player, the next challenge is to build on his first appearances and establish himself over the longer term.

Montpellier are due to face Red Star in their 10th-day match of the French Ligue 2 championship.
