Morocco started the Eric Blahic era with a 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan in the first match of a friendly double-header in Rabat.
The Lionesses of the Atlas fell behind in the 16th minute at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium before turning the game around after half-time, with Ibtissam Jraidi scoring twice in two minutes to put them in control.
Captain Ghizlane Chebbak and her team were tested early by Uzbekistan, known as the White Wolves. The visitors opened the scoring when a lob from the left caused problems for Morocco goalkeeper Fatima El Jebraoui.
El Jebraoui, who started unexpectedly in place of Khadija Er-Rmichi, pushed the ball back into the path of an Uzbekistan player, who was able to complete the move by forcing it over the line.
Morocco responded through substitute striker Jraidi, who produced a decisive spell in less than 15 minutes. The Al-Hilal forward levelled in the 65th minute with a diving header.
Two minutes later, Jraidi put Morocco ahead with a close-range finish, giving Blahic’s side the lead for the first time in the match.
She completed her contribution in the 79th minute, when a deflection off an Uzbekistan player sent the ball inside the post and secured a 3-1 victory for the hosts.
The result gives Morocco a winning start under their new manager and puts them ahead in the first meeting of the two sides.
The two teams will meet again on 12 October at the Al Medina Stadium, also in Rabat. That match will bring Morocco’s first training camp under Blahic to a close.
