Former Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez has given his assessment of the refereeing in Sunday’s Madrid derby against Atletico de Madrid.
Real Madrid were beaten 2-1 after playing with 10 men from the 50th minute, when defender Dean Huijsen was sent off.
The match officials also faced scrutiny over an incident late in the first half involving Atletico de Madrid forward Lee Kang-In and Federico Valverde. Lee Kang-In could have been shown a red card for rough play, but the referee decided not to dismiss him. That decision was subsequently officially acknowledged as an error.
All three goals in the derby were scored after Huijsen’s dismissal.
