Nigeria’s Junior Female YellowGreens have qualified for the 2027 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup after completing an unbeaten run at the Africa Qualifier in Tanzania.
The Junior YellowGreens secured their place at the global tournament by defeating Zimbabwe by four runs in the final of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in Dar es Salaam.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed Nigeria’s qualification in a statement following the final, which was played on Saturday, 5 September 2026, at the TCA Cricket Arena.
Victory over Zimbabwe brought the week-long qualifying tournament to a close and ensured Nigeria finished with a perfect record. Their five wins came against Uganda, Malawi, Tanzania, Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
The success means Nigeria will appear at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup for a second consecutive time. The team made its historic tournament debut at the inaugural edition in 2025.
Nigeria’s latest achievement further establishes the Junior Female YellowGreens as one of the country’s leading emerging national teams in women’s cricket. Their campaign in Dar es Salaam ended with the decisive win over Zimbabwe, who were narrowly beaten by a four-run margin in the final.
The result also gave Nigeria the Africa Qualifier title and the continent’s place at the 2027 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. The team remained unbeaten throughout the competition, overcoming each of its five opponents on the way to qualification.
The NSC praised the players, coaches and officials for their performance and for representing Nigeria with distinction during the tournament.
The commission’s congratulations followed a campaign in which the Junior YellowGreens combined consistency across the qualifier with the composure required to prevail in a close final. After wins over Uganda, Malawi, Tanzania and Rwanda, Nigeria completed the competition by edging Zimbabwe in the match that decided qualification.
The 2027 tournament will therefore mark Nigeria’s second successive appearance at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, following their participation in the competition’s first edition in 2025.
The qualification adds another landmark moment for the Junior Female YellowGreens, who have now gone from making their first appearance at the inaugural event to securing a place at the next edition through an unbeaten Africa Qualifier campaign.
The NSC also acknowledged the contribution of the coaching and official staff alongside the players, commending the entire delegation for the way it carried the Nigerian flag throughout the competition.
