Mamelodi Sundowns strengthened their status as African champions with a 2-1 victory over Al Ahli in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2026 on Saturday afternoon.
The South African side made the stronger start and took the lead in the 17th minute. Portuguese midfielder Nuno Santos found the net to give Mamelodi Sundowns a narrow advantage at half-time.
Al Ahli, representing Asia, pushed for an equaliser after the break, but the African champions held firm under pressure. Sundowns then increased their lead when Santos scored again in the 80th minute to complete his double.
Al Ahli reduced the deficit late on but could not find another goal to level the match. Mamelodi Sundowns held on to win 2-1 and continue their campaign in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2026.
