Pape Matar Sarr has joined Juventus from Tottenham Hotspur after the clubs reached an agreement on the final day of the transfer window.
The Senegal international moves to the Italian club on loan, with Juventus holding an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the arrangement. If they choose to do so, the 36-time Italian champions will be able to sign the 23-year-old midfielder for €28m.
The deal was concluded on deadline day, bringing Sarr’s time at Tottenham to a temporary close and giving Juventus the opportunity to assess him before deciding whether to complete a permanent transfer.
Sarr is now set to continue his career in Serie A after Juventus secured an agreement with the Premier League club. The loan includes the option to buy, meaning the Italian side can retain control over his future without being required to complete the full transfer immediately.
For Tottenham, the agreement allows the Senegal midfielder to leave on a temporary basis, while Juventus have negotiated a route to sign him permanently for a fee of €28m.
Sarr, 23, is an international player for Senegal and operates in midfield. His move was confirmed on the final day of the transfer window, when Juventus and Tottenham finalised the terms of the deal.
The Italian club’s status as 36-time champions of Italy underlines the scale of the move for Sarr, who will now be part of Juventus’ squad during the loan spell. The club will subsequently have the option of turning the agreement into a permanent transfer.
No permanent move has been completed at this stage. Juventus’ decision to sign Sarr outright will instead depend on whether they activate the €28m purchase option included in the loan agreement.
The transfer therefore leaves Sarr’s long-term destination open, with the midfielder joining Juventus immediately but remaining contracted to Tottenham unless the Italian club chooses to exercise its option.
The agreement was reached on deadline day, and Sarr has consequently left Tottenham Hotspur to join Juventus on loan. His next step in Italy could become a permanent one if Juventus decide to pay the agreed €28m fee.
