Mauricio Pochettino believes Tottenham Hotspur should be given Chelsea’s 2016-17 Premier League title after Chelsea admitted breaching Football Association rules.
Chelsea acknowledged 74 violations, including illegal secret payments totalling £47m to unregistered agents between 2011 and 2018. The club was fined £10m but avoided sporting sanctions.
Pochettino, who has managed both clubs, believes the breaches should lead to a redistribution of Premier League positions from the 2016-17 season, with Tottenham replacing Chelsea as champions.
Among the transfers completed by Chelsea during the period in which the breaches occurred were the signings of Eden Hazard, Willian and David Luiz. All three were important members of Antonio Conte’s team when Chelsea won the Premier League in 2016-17.
Tottenham finished second that season, seven points behind Chelsea.
