Chelsea forward Marc Guiu has completed his move to RB Leipzig, with the German club paying €16m for the Spain youth international and handing him a contract running until mid-2031.
The transfer brings Guiu’s short spell at Chelsea to an end and gives RB Leipzig a new attacking option following the departure of Yan Diomande to Real Madrid earlier this summer.
Guiu’s move was completed after a late change of direction in the transfer market. A loan had initially been considered for the striker, but RB Leipzig’s interest emerged suddenly towards the end of August and led to a permanent agreement with Chelsea.
The 19-year-old had fallen significantly down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and was keen to leave in search of a fresh opportunity. His transfer has now been formally completed, allowing him to begin the next stage of his career in Germany.
RB Leipzig had the financial room to strengthen their forward line after selling Diomande to Real Madrid. Guiu is the player chosen to add depth and competition in attack, with his long-term contract underlining the club’s commitment to the deal.
For Guiu, the move also offers the prospect of European football. He will represent RB Leipzig in the Champions League, adding a major competition to his first season with the Bundesliga club.
Chelsea had originally considered keeping open the possibility of a loan, but the late proposal from RB Leipzig changed the situation. Once the €16m offer was accepted, negotiations progressed quickly and the final transfer was completed.
The move also affects the competition for places at Chelsea. Emegha benefits from Guiu’s departure, as there is now one fewer rival for the centre-forward position at the club.
Guiu’s exit means Chelsea have formally said goodbye to the Spanish striker, while RB Leipzig have secured a replacement for the attacking role left open by Diomande’s transfer to Real Madrid. The German side have committed to the forward until mid-2031 and will now look to integrate him into a squad competing in the Champions League.
The agreement concludes a transfer that developed rapidly in the final part of August. What began with the possibility of a temporary move became a permanent €16m transfer, giving Guiu a new club and RB Leipzig an additional attacking option for the seasons ahead.
