Thomas Roncero has criticised the standard of officiating in La Liga, saying Real Madrid cannot win the title with refereeing decisions such as the one seen in Sunday’s Madrid derby.
Atletico beat Real Madrid 2-1, but the main controversy came late in the first half when the referee decided not to send off Lee Kang-in following a serious confrontation with Federico Valverde.
The Refereeing Committee later officially acknowledged that the referee had made a mistake.
“Real Madrid will not win La Liga with referees like these – it is impossible,” said Roncero.
Real Madrid are fourth in the table after seven rounds, with 15 points. Barcelona lead the league on 21 points, while Atletico and Real Betis are next on 16 points each.
