Nigeria international forward Sadiq Umar was on target for Valencia on Sunday evening, but his effort was not enough to prevent his side from suffering a 3-1 defeat to Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.
Deportivo made a blistering start at home, with Cesar breaking the deadlock in the 12th minute before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doubled the advantage just five minutes later.
Sadiq responded for Valencia in the 26th minute, finishing to reduce the deficit and give the visitors renewed hope of mounting a comeback before half-time.
Valencia, however, struggled to build on the momentum after the interval as Deportivo maintained control of the contest.
Mouctar Diakhaby extended the hosts’ advantage in the 59th minute, sealing a 3-1 victory and securing all three points for Deportivo.
Despite the defeat, Sadiq’s goal represents another positive contribution from the Nigerian forward as he continues to play an important role in Valencia’s attack.
