Senegal will face Gambia in the final of the UFOA A U17 tournament at 19:00 GMT on Sunday, with the hosts aiming to secure a third consecutive title.
The match will be played at Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium in Dakar, where Senegal arrive as favourites after an unbeaten defensive campaign. The Lionceaux have yet to concede a goal in the tournament.
Assane Sarr, Cheikh Thior and the rest of Senegal’s defensive line have protected their goal throughout the competition, while Souleymane Commissaire Faye, Maguette Gueye, Moussa Ndiaye and Cheikh Oumar Sy have provided the attacking threat.
Senegal’s strength has been its balance, with defenders also capable of influencing matches in the final third. Chikh Thior demonstrated that quality by scoring in the semi-final victory over Guinea.
Gambia reached the final after finishing second in the group stage, behind Senegal. The Baby Scorpions then defeated Liberia in the semi-finals to set up another meeting with the reigning champions.
The final will have a familiar feel after the sides drew 0-0 in the third round of the group stage. Gambia are the only team in the tournament to have prevented Senegal from scoring against them.
The Scorpions cadets will now attempt to go one step further and claim a major upset, while Senegal seek to complete a third successive triumph on home soil. Kick-off is scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
