Sheffield United consider January move for Motherwell’s Emmanuel Longelo

Sheffield United are weighing up a move for Motherwell left-back Emmanuel Longelo during the January transfer window.

The Championship club have already begun planning for the winter market and, according to journalist Alan Nixon, have identified the 25-year-old as a potential target. Longelo is currently under contract with Motherwell, having joined the Scottish club from Birmingham City in the summer of 2025.

The defender made an immediate impact in Scotland and quickly established himself as an important member of the Motherwell side. Last season, he contributed 14 goals and assists in 44 appearances, scoring nine times and providing five assists.

His performances also helped Motherwell secure qualification for the Conference League, increasing his profile in the English transfer market.

Longelo came through the academy at West Ham United before going on to play for Birmingham City and Cambridge United. His form since moving to Motherwell has now put him back on the radar of clubs in England, with Sheffield United considering whether to make an approach when the transfer window opens in January.

No official offer has been made at this stage. Longelo’s contract with Motherwell runs until 31 May 2027 and includes an option for a further year. His market value is estimated at €1.5m.

Sheffield United are currently competing in the Championship and will shortly play their 14th league match of the season against Preston North End.
