African heavyweights Simba SC of Tanzania and Morocco’s Raja Casablanca are reportedly keeping close tabs on Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali following his departure from South African side Chippa United, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The 29-year-old shot-stopper recently became a free agent after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with the Chilli Boys, a move that has immediately sparked interest from some of the continent’s most ambitious clubs.
End of South African Chapter
Nwabali’s exit brings to an end a productive spell in the South African Premier Division. He joined Chippa United from Katsina United in 2022 and went on to establish himself as a commanding presence between the posts.
Across four seasons, the Nigerian international made 76 appearances in all competitions, keeping 25 clean sheets. His consistency, composure under pressure, and leadership qualities earned him widespread praise and solidified his reputation as one of the league’s most reliable goalkeepers.
AFCON Heroics Raise Profile
Interest in Nwabali has also been fuelled by his impressive performances at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. He played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s run to a third-place finish, delivering crucial saves and demonstrating maturity on the big stage.
His displays at the tournament further enhanced his status as one of Africa’s top goalkeepers, making him an attractive option for clubs seeking both quality and experience.
Taking His Time
While moves to Simba SC or Raja Casablanca would represent major steps in his career, Nwabali is understood to be carefully weighing his options. The goalkeeper is in no rush to commit, preferring to assess the right sporting project before making a decision.
For Simba and Raja Casablanca, landing a goalkeeper of Nwabali’s calibre on a free transfer would be a significant coup as they prepare for demanding domestic and continental campaigns.
