Venezia have appointed Davide Nicola as their new head coach after dismissing Giovanni Stroppa earlier this week.
The promoted Serie A club are bottom of the table without a point from their opening six matches of the season. Nicola, 53, takes charge having been out of work since leaving Cremonese in March.
Stroppa’s final match was Monday’s 3-1 defeat by Atalanta, a result which left Venezia four points adrift of second-bottom Fiorentina.
Nicola’s first game in charge will come on Saturday, when Venezia host Napoli.
The Italian has built a reputation for helping clubs avoid relegation during previous spells in Serie A. He has managed Crotone, Genoa, Torino, Salernitana and Empoli, among others, in the Italian top flight.
Stroppa became the fourth coach to leave a Serie A club this season. Fiorentina dismissed Fabio Grosso, Domenico Tedesco left Bologna and Carlos Cuesta was sacked by Parma.
