Brighton and Hove Albion recovered from an early setback to draw 1-1 with Leeds United in the third round of the Premier League, with Luka Vuskovic’s second-half equaliser ensuring the points were shared.
Leeds took the lead in the 15th minute, a goal that will have disappointed most of the supporters inside the stadium. Jayden Bogle found himself in the right place to finish from only a few centimetres out, sending the ball into an unguarded net.
The visitors’ opener gave Leeds the advantage for more than half an hour, while Brighton were forced to wait until the closing stages before finding a response. The home side eventually restored parity in the 71st minute following a corner delivered from the right.
Vuskovic attacked the cross at the far post and converted the opportunity, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. His finish brought Brighton level and ensured Leeds would not leave with all three points.
Neither team could find a winning goal after that, meaning the contest finished 1-1. The result leaves Leeds with five points from their opening three league matches, while Brighton have collected four.
The draw reflected a match in which Leeds made the stronger early impact but Brighton showed enough persistence to recover. Bogle’s close-range finish had put the visitors in front, but Vuskovic’s intervention from a set-piece gave Brighton a share of the result.
For Leeds, the point takes their total to five after three rounds of the Premier League. Brighton remain one point behind them on four, with both sides having now completed the same number of matches.
The two clubs had entered Saturday’s schedule as one of the fixtures in the third round of England’s top flight. After Leeds had opened the scoring, Brighton needed a second-half improvement to avoid defeat, and their equaliser in the 71st minute proved decisive.
The final score means there was no winner between Brighton and Leeds, despite the visitors holding the lead for much of the game. Brighton’s response came through Vuskovic at the far post, while Leeds’ advantage had been established by Bogle’s opportunistic finish into an empty goal.
