Yassine Khalifi is emerging as one of the Moroccan players attracting attention across Europe, with Paris Saint-Germain monitoring the 21-year-old midfielder’s progress at Sporting Charleroi.
Khalifi began his development at the Academie Mohammed VI de Football, one of Morocco’s leading centres for youth development. A loan spell at Union Touarga gave him his first taste of senior football and provided valuable experience at a higher competitive level.
Born in Marrakech, he built the technical and competitive foundations of his career during that period before taking the next step towards European football.
A difficult first spell in France
Khalifi moved to France and joined LOSC, where he encountered a more demanding football environment. However, he was unable to make a first-team appearance for the club.
Instead, the midfielder played for the reserve side and the Under-19 team. His time at LOSC was nevertheless his first experience of European football and exposed him to surroundings far removed from those of his early career in Morocco.
Breakthrough at Sporting Charleroi
The major turning point came in Belgium. Since joining Sporting Charleroi in the summer of 2025, Khalifi has produced a series of strong performances and taken a significant step forward.
His form has made him one of the most closely watched young players in the Belgian championship, with observers from across European football taking notice. The new environment appears to have given him the opportunity to establish himself and show his ability consistently.
Khalifi has been a guaranteed starter for the Zebres since the beginning of the season. He has played in every league match, accumulating 607 minutes of action.
PSG monitoring his progress
That development has also attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain. According to La Derniere Heure, the French club is keeping a close eye on Khalifi and has included him among the African youngsters regarded as having significant potential.
There is no indication, however, that discussions have progressed to a concrete stage. For now, PSG’s interest remains restricted to monitoring the player rather than representing an official approach.
Recognition with Morocco
Khalifi’s progress has been reflected in his international career. He has represented Morocco at Under-17 and Under-20 level and has been part of the Morocco Under-23 squad since last March.
His continued selection underlines the standing he has earned within Moroccan football and the attention being paid to his development.
Khalifi’s contract with Sporting Charleroi expires next summer, although the Belgian club has an option to extend the agreement by a further two years. Transfermarkt currently estimates his value at 1.3 million euros.
Sporting Charleroi are due to face Standard de Liege in their eighth Belgian championship match.
